Make your own!

You've come to the end of the lessons, good work! You have learnt about major and minor pentatonic scales and how to create melodies using them. You have learnt how to incorporate stylistic rhythmic ideas and create your own groove, and you have added chords and accompaniment to make your music more interesting. You have learnt and practiced all the basic tools you will need in order to create your own Scottish Reel. You might even have found you have come out of these lessons with one already. More than that, these skills are transferable and can be used for all of your compositions in the future!

What I have presented here is not all there is to learn about Scottish Reels. It is a rich and old culture that these lessons have only just scratched the surface of. If this music excites you, listen closely to the listening examples, follow those artists and see what else they have created. See if there are local groups in your area and reach out to like-minded people, it can be the best way to learn!
